Biotalg liefert Biotin, das ein gleichmäßiges Wachstum des Hufes unterstützt. Es ist außerdem reich an Spurenelementen, insbesondere Kupfer und Zink, die für die Regeneration des Hufgewebes und der Hautanhangsgebilde (Fell, Mähne, Schweif) nützlich sind.

Der Pferdehuf wächst im Durchschnitt etwa 1 cm pro Monat: die Verwendung von Biotin in angemessener Dosierung in Verbindung mit der Verabreichung von Algenmehl kann die Wachstumsgeschwindigkeit verdoppeln.
